Valentines Day

What does Valentines Day mean to you? To me it is a time to celebrate love… but not just the love I have for my wife, but for my little son as well. Tonight we decided not to do anything fancy – the nice restaurants are a madhouse and we can’t ask anyone else to watch Caleb since they are all also celebrating Valentines so where did we go? Bird Dog BBQ! It’s one of those places where you order at the counter, sit down on plastic chairs, eat off of styrofoam plates, pull off wads of napkins paper towels, and drown your meat in barbecue sauce! Why go through the stress of waiting for hours at a nice place when you can get good ‘ol American bbq? Anyway we had a total blast and enjoyed every moment of it.

I didn’t have my camera so my phone had to suffice…

But we loved it, Caleb loved it, and we went home excited and in love with each other.

…. Then Caleb threw up. Not a lot, in fact the little pile is still behind me as I write this post but we calmed him down, stripped him naked to the bare buns and daddy and Caleb got in the tub together and took a bath. Now, if you ask me, that is what love is all about. Sure, its wonderful to have rose petals on a bed and candle-light dinners, a walk together holding hands and moments spent cuddling on the couch by a roaring fire. But those are the icing on the cake. Love means taking care of each other. Sticking by each other through life’s ups and downs, and most importantly picking partially digested beans out of your 14 month old’s hair

This is love. I love it. Every moment.

Pregnancy… no not ours!

Yesterday some friends of ours asked if I’d be willing to do their maternity photography. Of course I said I’d love to! This couple is great, they have an almost 2 year old son and a little baby girl on the way. I’ll be posting pictures as I process them but here is the first batch!

He Stood!

Caleb has been a bit behind the “average” for crawling/walking. He’s almost 14 months and just learned to crawl a couple weeks ago. There’s nothing wrong developmentally or physically our doctor says because every other developmental milestone is there. He just has to do it his way in his timing. If we try to help him he refuses but if it’s his idea then watch out… there he’ll go!

So yesterday as I was playing with him he started attempting to pull himself up on the couch which shocked me because it was the first time he’s ever tried that. He didn’t have much to hold on to and ended up falling flat on his face but he shook it off sat back up, and looked over at me and signed “please”. He wanted up on the couch… or so I thought. I thought to myself, “Self? If he was trying to pull himself up, maybe he doesn’t want to be ON the couch but stand up next to the couch…” So I picked him up and placed him against the couch where he immediately locked his legs and stood! Of course the next trick will be to get him to stand while awake…

Well actually he was awake…

Boy he loves soft things, he loves to “snuggle” with anything soft like the couch fabric… or mommy’s sock…

We call that fuzzy sock his “Wuvee”. And anytime he gets something soft in his hands or near his face the thumb goes in and he rubs the soft thing on his upper lip. It’s so adorable!
And then today, we were watching the NFC playoff game… GO GREENBAY! Ahem… and Caleb crawled over to me and laid down on the pillow and cuddled with his dada as we watched the game. I cherished it with everything in me! I love being a daddy!
